Come together for an afternoon of delicious food, good company, and joyful celebration as we commemorate Juneteenth.
Honoring Our History:
Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, marks a pivotal moment in American history. On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced General Order No. 3, declaring that all enslaved people in Texas were free. This momentous occasion came more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
For Black Americans, Juneteenth is a powerful symbol of resilience, perseverance, and the ongoing pursuit of equality. It’s a time to reflect on the struggles endured, celebrate the triumphs achieved, and recommit to the ideals of justice and liberation for all. This day is deeply woven into the cultural fabric of Black communities, representing a vibrant celebration of heritage, family, and freedom.
We invite you to be a part of this important commemoration. Bring your family, friends, and neighbors to Veterans Park for an evening of community connection and celebration.

Entertainment
Join us for what has become a Hoover-AHEAD Juneteenth tradition—the Sahi On Ko Djony Dancers. They are a local group committed to Learning, Preserving and Presenting West African Dance, Drumming and Folklore! You don’t want to miss their electrifying performances.
And music? DJ Modernaire will be on hand to keep everyone dancing and enjoying themselves.
